SARAWAK will provide free school bus service for pupils within Kuching city next year.
Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg said the service is a form of convenience and will be on the hop-on hop-off concept where pupils could hop on the bus at any point along the route and then drop off at their respective schools.
“This idea is mooted from our recognition of the financial burden faced by low-income families in urban areas trying to meet the cost of transportation to school,” he said.
“Notwithstanding that, this service would also help to ease traffic congestion in the city area.”
Similar services could be introduced to other densely populated cities in Sarawak when the need arises. – November 4, 2019.
