AN exciting Malaysia Cup final opened the Tg Piai by-election campaign yesterday in Johor.
Instead of the traditional big ceramah, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, the two big contenders for the seat, decided to watch a football match with their supporters in Pekan Nenas.
PH by-election candidate Karmaine Sardini and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin were among the coalition representatives who got together with the supporters at Warung 800 to watch JDT trounce Kedah 3-0 live on a giant screen.
Refreshments and a lucky draw were also on the programme at the event which was attended by about 150 people.
BN held a similar event at the MCA operations centre, where party leaders briefly addressed the 200-strong crowd before kick-off.
Tanjung Piai MCA division chief Wee Jeck Seng, 55, is looking to win back the seat that he narrowly lost to PH last year in the general election.
Four other parties threw their hats into the ring yesterday morning at the nomination centre to make the by-election a six-way fight.
They are Berjasa president Badrulhisham Abdul Aziz, 56; Gerakan women’s wing vice-chairman Wendy Subramaniam, 38; Gabungan Teksi SeMalaysia representative Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar, 43; and Independent candidate Ang Chuan Lock, 39. – November 3, 2019.
