Police to fact check banned comic with historians

POLICE will seek the assistance of history experts to verify facts in a comic book banned by the Home Ministry today.

Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed told a media conference today that police have identified a few historians they would like to speak to about the content of the comic Belt and Road Initiative for Win Winism.

To date, he said, the police have received 46 reports about with the publication and distribution of the comic.

He said the police have taken statements from five people, including former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau; the artist of the comic book, known as Tomato; and two people from the printing company in Shah Alam.

We have also sent a request to the Home Affairs Ministry and the National Library for their assistance in connection with the publication permit and the comic title, he added.

On October 18, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said a preliminary report by the ministry’s security department found that something was wrong with the comic and that it was appropriate for action to be taken against the publisher and distributor.

“These publications are banned because their contents may be detrimental to public order, corrupt the minds of the public, jeopardising morality, public interest and national security,” the ministry said in the statement. – Bernama, October 23, 2019.
