PAKATAN Harapan will name its Tg Piai by-election candidate in next week, said Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Bersatu president said once the coalition has finalised its selection, the candidate will then be introduced to the constituents.
“As the Johor Pakatan Harapan chairman, I will reveal more soon. We hope to get a suitable candidate for the by-election,” he said after officiating the National Registration Day in Putrajaya today.
The Tg Piai seat fell vacant after its incumbent, Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, died from a heart attack on September 21.
Farid was the Tg Piai Bersatu deputy chief and won the seat in GE14, beating Wee Jeck Seng (Barisan Nasional) and Nordin Othman (PAS).
Nomination day is set for November 2 and polling on November 16.
Despite receiving much criticism, PH is confident about retaining the parliamentary seat, as a result of the cooperation among coalition members.
PH by-election director Dr Sahruddin Jamal said criticism was part and parcel of politics.
“We must be confident of winning in a struggle. So, any criticism is normal.
“It is part and parcel of politics but I am confident with the support of all, we will be able to unite and co-operate to ensure PH wins.” – October 16, 2019.
