MALAYSIA’S economy will not recover next year if its growth rate is 4.8%, said Najib Razak.

The former prime minister said Putrajaya’s projection showed the economy contracting from when Barisan Nasional was in power.

Growth in 2017 stood at 5.9%, he said.

Najib, who also held the finance portfolio, said the nation’s economic objectives will likely not be achieved under Budget 2020.

“The reality is that the economy will not grow, and the 4.8% may not be achieved,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

He was referring to the Finance Ministry’s 2020 Economic Outlook Report, which forecast an expansion of 4.8% next year. – October 11, 2019.
