Police detain 2 DAP reps, Perak activist over alleged links with Tamil Tigers

Bukit Aman has confirmed the arrests of two DAP leaders over alleged links with Tamil Tigers. – The Malaysian Insight pic, October 10, 2019.

POLICE this morning arrested a Malacca DAP executive officer and a Negri Sembilan assemblyman over their alleged links with the defunct Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism division chief Ayub Khan Mydin Pitchai confirmed the arrests and  Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador will soon issue a statement.

Malacca exco member and Gadek assemblyman G. Saminathan, and Seremban Jaya assemblyman P. Gunasekaran were detained this morning at their office, according to sources.

Malacca chief minister Adly Zahari told Astro Awani that Saminathan was detained over his speeches at an event in support of the separatist group that led three decades of civil war in Sri Lanka before it was defeated.

Police also detained an activist of a civil society group in Perak.

Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy told news site Free Malaysia Today that the two DAP men were arrested over a gathering they had attended last year.

“We were told they were arrested over a ‘heroes day’ gathering they attended last year,” Ramasamy was quoted as saying. – October 10, 2019.
