TRANSPORT Minister Anthony Loke today cleared confusion surrounding the new requirements imposed on e-hailing drivers by the Road Transport Department (RTD).

He said these drivers do not have to rush to the RTD to change their vehicle category from individual private vehicle (AB) to e-hailing private vehicle (AH).

He added the change has been automatically registered in the mySikap system under RTD.

“I want to clarify the confusion. The drivers will not have to go RTD to change their vehicle category from AB to AH,” he said at the ministry in Putrajaya today.

It was reported that drivers now have two new requirements to fulfil if they want to be on the road Saturday onwards.

The first is drivers have to convert their vehicle category from AB to AH. Secondly, the vehicle must have a physical e-hailing vehicle permit (EVP).

Loke said it is compulsory for e-hailing drivers to have the EVP but they don’t have to print it out.

“If they don’t have the physical copy, they can still drive their vehicles.

“Printing it out is just for their reference.

“Their company will have to submit driver details to the Land Public Transport Agency to get the permit.”

He added the AH category will not be reflected in their vehicle grant as it will still be considered a private item.

“There is no policy for e-hailing drivers to change their vehicle status from private to commercial.” – October 9, 2019.
