TWO experts who testified in the inquest into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim will have their statements recorded by police as part of a criminal investigation.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said the witnesses are UK-based forensic pathologist Professor Dr Shahrom Abd Wahid and Universiti Teknologi Mara mechanical engineering senior lecturer Dr Amir Radzi Ab Ghani.
“We will take the statements of these two experts,” he told a press conference at the federal police headquarters today.
The inquest last month ruled that Adib’s death was the result of a criminal act by unknown persons.
The 24-year-old died in hospital 21 days after sustaining serious injuries during riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya on November 26 last year.
During the inquest, Sharom disagreed that Adib’s chest injuries were the result of him being knocked down by a fire truck.
He was the only forensic pathologist, out of the three who gave evidence, who said it was more likely that the firefighter had been pulled out of his vehicle and beaten up.
Amir Radzi, meanwhile, testified in support of Sharom’s calculations of the impact of the blows that caused Adib’s injuries.
Huzir today urged the public not to speculate on the investigations, especially about people police had initially arrested after the incident and then released.
“In total, 12 people were arrested in relation to the temple riots, for attacking fire and rescue department machinery, and for causing a ruckus at Menara MCT,” he said, referring to a building near the temple that had been vandalised in the riots.
“As all these locations were near each other, police made the arrests but have since found from investigations that the 12 arrested were not involved in Adib’s death,” he said, adding confusion about their involvement had been caused by the media.
He said four men had been investigated for rioting, committing mischief and criminal trespass under the Penal Code, not murder. – October 9, 2019.
