Bill to protect food donors tabled for first reading

THE government today tabled a bill aimed to provide protection to food donors against civil liability.

The Food Donors Protection Bill 2019 was tabled for first reading in Parliament by Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Chong Chieng Jen and is expected to be tabled for second reading and debated during this parliamentary sitting that runs until December 5.

The bill states food donors will have liability protection in the event of injury, ailment or death of any person unless it can be proven otherwise.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was previously reported saying that sponsors, donors and others related to the Food Bank Malaysia programme would be protected under a new act.

Also tabled for first reading today were the Anti-Fake News (Repeal) Bill 2019, Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill 2019, Currency Bill 2019 and the Central Bank of Malaysia (Amendment) Bill 2019. – Bernama, October 7, 2019.
