POLICE are awaiting further instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers before proceeding with Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s case.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department prosecution and legal division principal assistant director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the investigation into the fireman’s death has not been closed.
“The investigation is still open. We will try to locate those involved in his murder, as ordered by the coroners’ court last week.
“We will also recall all witnesses if necessary,” he told the press at the federal police headquarters this morning.
On Friday, coroner Rofiah Mohamad ruled that Adib died due to a “criminal act” by two or three unidentified assailants.
She said the blunt force trauma to the 24-year-old fireman’s chest was the result of him being dragged out of the Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle he was in during the riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya last November.
She said inaction by police and the Federal Reserve Unit contributed to his death.
The verdict came following a 41-day inquest, which began on July 24, that heard testimonies from 30 witnesses, including experts.
Adib died at the National Heart Institute on December 17, succumbing to injuries sustained during the violence at the temple the previous month.
The inquest was ordered after two conflicting versions on the probable cause of his death emerged. According to one version, Adib was hit by a vehicle. In the other, he was beaten up by a mob.
Following the verdict last week, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said the force will look into the case again, and gave an assurance that Adib’s attackers will be identified and brought to face justice. – September 30, 2019.
