PUTRAJAYA will recalibrate its economic planning to enhance the agricultural sector while maintaining growth in the industrial sector to unlock growth potential, Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Azmin was speaking at a side event, a panel discussion on “Environmental Stewardship in Addressing Poverty to Achieve Sustainable Development for All.

“Today, the Malaysian government will undertake a structural recalibration in its economic direction to give greater focus towards enhancing the agriculture sector while maintaining our momentum in the industrial sector. We want to unlock its immense potential for growth,” he said.

In excerpts from his speech shared on Facebook, Azmin said the agricultural sector could be enhanced with smart farming and precision agriculture that would create demand and high-income jobs for high-skill human resources.

“This ensures high productivity resulting in higher income for farmers and uplifting of their socioeconomic conditions,” he said.

Azmin said the Fourth Industrial Revolution has brought new opportunities to launch the economy into a new era of growth.

Meanwhile, he said Malaysia adopts a balanced and inclusive approach in addressing poverty and has achieved outstanding socio-economic growth in the last 60 years.

“This success was driven by establishing the right institutions and policies, supported by enforcement of relevant regulations,” he said. – September 26, 2019.
