PAKATAN Harapan has not reneged on its election promises, said Lim Guan Eng, and will work to fulfil them while managing the financial issues inherited from the previous administration.

The finance minister was responding to a question on whether PH will keep its promise to increase the oil royalty payment to Sabah and Sarawak to 20%.

“As far as this oil royalty issue is concerned, we have said before that we want to implement the promises in the manifesto, but because of legacy issues from the previous government, we are unable to carry out our wishes.

“You have to understand that the previous government caused enormous amounts of funds to be wasted or put Malaysia in trouble,” he told reporters after attending an event at the 1Utama shopping mall in Petaling Jaya today.

He said Putrajaya has been tied up dealing with losses amounting to RM150 billion due to corruption in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd and related scandals.

“Definitely, this makes it difficult for us to realise our wish list immediately.

“We hope the people understand. We are looking to fulfil the promises we’ve made, not just in the peninsula, but also in Sabah and Sarawak.”

He cited the cancellation of Pan Borneo Highway project delivery partners as an example, saying the government did so to rationalise costs, to ensure better services, pricing and delivery. – September 13, 2019.
