YAYASAN Rahah and Pekan Umno’s Ibrahim Awang Ismail have settled civil forfeiture suits brought by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), which is seeking to recover funds linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
The settlement today was recorded by Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali during case management.
DPP Allan Suman Pillai and lawyer Amin Othman, acting on the two parties’ behalf, told the court that they had reached a settlement with the government with the terms strictly to remain private and confidential.
Ibrahim is Pekan Umno’s education bureau chairman.
Last month, Yayasan Rahah and Ibrahim agreed to return the almost RM1million in total they had received.
The government had sought to seize RM839,488.82 from Yayasan Rahah and RM100,000 from Ibrahim.
MACC has filed civil forfeiture suits against 41 individuals and entities to recover RM270 million of 1MDB-linked funds. – September 6, 2019.
