PAKATAN Harapan expects 100,000 people at its mega rally this Saturday, despite two big events on the same day.

The “Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy” rally is the finale to cap PH’s roadshow against Prime Minister Najib Razak, and will be on held on the same day as the National Sports Day and the Manchester United-Liverpool football match.

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said although the venue at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya had a capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 people, PH was expecting a huge crowd to spill over onto the surrounding streets.

“We will still stick to our target of getting 100,000 people to attend the rally.

“We are also confident that many people will come from other states and fill up the field at the rally.

“We also want the youth to join us after the football match because the rally will take place from 4pm to 12 midnight,” he said at a press conference at the Bersatu office in Petaling Jaya today.

The match between Liverpool and Manchester United is to start at 7.30pm local time and speeches at the rally are expected to start around 9pm. The rally is to kick off with carnival activities in the afternoon.

PH has gone into rural areas around Malaysia since July to explain the corruption allegations against Najib involving state investor 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Mohamad said the rally would be peaceful, and PH had informed the police 10 days before the event.

Police have not given any notice to change the venue to the Kelana Jaya stadium as rumoured.

“The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has approved the venue,” he said.

DAP Socialist Youth secretary Howard Lee said they had had two meetings with the police on the rally.

“On September 26, the secretariat for the rally handed over the notification to the police.

“Thus far, the discussions with the police have gone smoothly. With respect to compliance of the law, we confident that we are in compliance with the Peaceful Assembly Act,” he said.

Amanah Youth vice-chief Faiz Fadzil said they had engaged 700 volunteers to monitor the security at the rally.

“Our focus is to have a carnival-like atmosphere. There will also be shows and talks on corruption pertaining to 1MDB.

“There will also be exhibitions all over the field on 1MDB and the US Department of Justice,” he said.

Mohamad said Red Shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos was welcome to sell his fish at the rally.

“He can come and sell whatever he wants. There will be no provocation. We have the police,” he said.

Jamal is expected to set up a fresh fish market at the same venue as the rally on Saturday as announced in an invitation sent through WhatsApp to the media.

The Sungai Besar Umno division leader has been organising fish markets in Ampang and Sekinchan recently where cheap fish is sold to support his accusation that DAP and Chinese middlemen were to blame for raising the price of fresh fish. – October 10, 2017.

  • Boleh-kah the same projector used for slides on 1MDB be used to video stream the football match? Then people will not miss the match and may even come earlier?
