THE Customs Department and police have confiscated cocaine and ketamine worth RM670 million from two premises in Shah Alam in what is believed to be the nation’s largest drugs bust ever.
In the operations, 500kg of ketamine and 3.23 tonnes of cocaine were seized from two business premises in Puncak Alam and Section U5, Shah Alam, yesterday.
It is learnt the raids were conducted by the Customs Department with the assistance of Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.
Sources said the operation followed a month-long survey on the premises, suspected to be drug-processing labs.
“During the first raid at Puncak Alam about 4.30am yesterday, four locals and nine foreigners were arrested, leading to the discovery of 11 sacks containing white powder suspected to be 500kg of ketamine.
“Following that, a shop in Section U5, Shah Alam, was raided at 9.20pm,” the source said.
A search at the second location led to the discovery and seizure of 3,230 compressed packs containing white powder suspected to be cocaine weighing 3.23 tonnes, the source said.
“All the suspects and case items were taken to the Customs Narcotics office for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
The source added that the drugs haul is believed to be the largest ever recorded in the country.
“Police are still investigating the possibility of syndicates using the country as a transit point since the use of cocaine in Malaysia is less popular than syabu (methamphetamine) and ketamine.
“Cocaine from South America is in high demand from syndicates in neighbouring countries, and is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars,” the source said.
According to the source, all the suspects have been remanded. – August 19, 2019.
