People think MACC can solve all problems, says Latheefa

THE bulk of public complaints to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) are not related to alleged corruption, they are instead on unrelated issues, including sexual harassment and roads in need of repair, anti-graft agency chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said today.

These complaints were received daily through various channels the MACC has made available for the public to provide it with tip offs.

“Only between 30% and 40% of complaints are actually related to corruption.

“Other complaints have been about sexual harassment, bad roads, local government councils, court cases, police cases and others,” she told the press after attending a dialogue with 32 government-linked agencies and private sector companies in Putrajaya today.

She said the MACC had to filter every complaint to look for elements of corruption before it could be passed on to its investigating officers or to the relevant agency.

“People think MACC can solve all problems, while sometimes they do not provide full information so investigations cannot be done.” – August 6, 2019.
