FORMER prime minister Najib Razak said the flying restriction imposed on him by the Pakatan Harapan government helped to promote the Bossku campaign.
He said he took the opportunity to travel all over the country to meet the people.
“I am lucky to be able to go anywhere in the country. If the prime minister had allowed me to fly, maybe there will be no Bossku phenomena today,” he told Umno Permatang Pauh delegates as he opened the meeting in Tasek Gelugor today.
“Thousands were willing to wait for me because they saw I was brave to fight PH. They want to see me and I will not back down from fighting.
“Secondly, they want to show that they are disappointed with what is happening. Things are not being handled smoothly,” he said.
He added that many civil servants and security personnel have shown their displeasure with the government.
“They are disappointed. Their salary should have been increased in a special allowance but it was cancelled.
“Teachers too – they are promoted but salary is still the same,” he said.
Najib was barred from leaving the country amid fear he would flee the country as soon as Dr Mahathir Mohamad took over the federal government last May.
He launched the Bossku campaign last January. He has shown that he was able to get close to the poor and was able to get rid of his upper-class image.
Najib is facing six charges of money laundering and criminal breach of trust in the transfer of RM42 million to his account from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
He is also accused of abusing his power as prime minister by giving government guarantees on SRC International’s RM4 billion loan from Retirement Fund Inc. – July 27, 2019.
