Syed Saddiq just a child, not worth RM5 million, says Umno info chief

UMNO information chief Annuar Musa has dismissed as a mere attention-seeking stunt, the allegations by Bersatu Youth (Armada) chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman that he was offered RM5 million to quit the party, adding that the political greenhorn was not worth the money.

“Do you think he (Syed Saddiq) is worth RM5 million?” Annuar said after an Umno-organised dialogue in Balik Pulau, Penang, last night.

“If I had RM5 million, I would give the money to 100 young boys to farm kelulut (stingless bees). The money would be better spent that way than giving it to Syed Saddiq.

“It is up to him. He has a long way to go in politics. I wish him all the best,” said the veteran politician.

On Monday, Syed Saddiq claimed that he was offered RM5 million from those in the Prime Minister’s Office to leave Bersatu, which is led by opposition chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Syed Saddiq said had he accepted the offer, he would have had to read a prepared script at a press conference, criticising the 92-year-old Dr Mahathir, who led the country from 1981 to 2003 and was once mentor to Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Annuar said he “sympathised” with Syed Saddiq as he is now criticised over the claims.

“To put it simply, he is a child deprived of attention. Many others have declined to further their studies, like one of my own kids, but they don’t hold press conferences.

“He did it for the attention. He likes to see you all (the media) give him publicity. It is okay. He is young and still learning politics.”

A day before he dropped the bombshell in the press conference, Syed Saddiq posted on Instagram that he had been offered a scholarship to pursue graduate studies in public policy at Oxford University.

He said he was considering whether he should give up his political career to further his studies.

Dr Mahathir later said that buying people over was Najib’s way of winning the next elections. He said Syed Saddiq was not the first to be offered inducements to abandon the opposition camp.

Syed Saddiq told The Malaysian Insight yesterday that he would lodge a police report instead of going to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, as threats have been made against his family.

“After seeing the police, I will decide whether or not to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). I will have to discuss the move with my lawyers.” – October 4, 2017.

  • U just disclose your stupidity, your discrimination towards young Malays by insulting the future of young Malays. No wonder your party closes door for young Malay whom are well educated graduates and have the fire to serve the people and country. U guys are afraid of these sort of future young Malays whom are ready to serve and fight for Malaysia. In France a 39 year old nobody became the President. Young Malays will make the change soon. Countdown begins.

  • I remembered you were seeking the attention of Madhatir during the yesteryears annual event of UMNO. You were quoting Shakespear languages to impress and it really reflects the non value sycophantic characteristic of which was "jijik" to even the Umno delegates at large. At what standing are you in position to define a person worth of value when your very ownself has yet to clear your own blemished records. Do we need to list them ??
I sense lots of fear from every corner of Umno. Even the fear of being backstabbed are so imminent within Umno as all the tainted Umno ministers are just on borrowed time. Young articulate and educated gentlemen of the opposing political parties are reducing Umno to a low level of pedestrian without a good counter bantering except for threats and hideous intentions. coming from you is what UmnoBN can offer. Pathetic !!!!!!!!!!!

  • If UMNO information chief Annuar Musa had RM5 million, he would give the money to 100 young boys to farm kelulut (stingless bees). The money would be better spent that way than giving it to Syed Saddiq. But Najib used his stolen billions to farm 3 millions keluluts. Where are his keluluts now that he is in trouble?
