THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will cooperate fully with the police in its new investigations into the death of Teoh Beng Hock while in the graft busters’ custody in 2009, said Latheefa Koya.

The MACC chief gave this assurance as her agency comes under fresh investigations for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in Teoh’s case.

“I can’t comment on any investigation. You will have to ask the police.

“We are the party that is being investigated. We can confirm that and give our cooperation on the matter.

“No comments if we will start an internal investigation on this case,” she said after an event in Kuala Lumpur today.

Last month, Attorney-General Tommy Thomas had instructed the police to carry out investigations under Section 304 of the Penal Code for a lesser charge of murder over Teoh’s death.

Last week, Thomas said this was because there was insufficient evidence to proffer a homicide charge in the case.

Section 304 deals with imprisonment for the offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Thomas also said the recent classifications of the case would in no way prevent investigators from seeking the truth and identifying the parties involved.

Teoh’s family and lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh, had voiced their dissatisfaction with the development, saying there was sufficient evidence of homicide and foul play in the case, as stated in a 2014 Court of Appeal judgment.

Teoh was found dead on July 16, 2009, on the fifth-floor rooftop of Plaza Masalam after having his statement recorded at the Selangor MACC office on the building’s 14th floor.

He was political secretary to then Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, who is also Seri Kembangan assemblyman. – July 22, 2019.
