PUTRAJAYA has agreed in principle to re-evaluate the tasks and responsibilities of political secretaries in carrying out their duties, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said there is a need for the cabinet to discuss their roles and prevent what had happened during the time of previous administration.
“Initially, the role of a pol-sec role is to assist in connecting the minister with the people.
“But now we get political secretaries who are involved in the distribution of contracts like what the previous government used to do. This is not their job,” he said after chairing a special cabinet committee on anti-corruption.
Dr Mahathir said it is crucial the political secretaries return to their roles of assisting the ministers.
Meanwhile, he said the National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre has announced during the meeting that out of the 115 initiatives outlined in the National Anti-Corruption Plan, 15 of which 17 initiatives have been completed.
This includes nine initiatives in the field of political governance, two for public sector administration, three for legal and judicial, one for law enforcement and two for corporate governance.
Of the 22 priority initiatives within the NACP, seven initiatives have been completed involving three in governance, one for administration, two for public procurement and one for corporate governance. – July 18, 2019.
