DAP will decide the status of its Tronoh assemblyman, Paul Yong Choo Kiong, after police complete their probe into a claim he raped his Indonesian maid.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the matter has been discussed with Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who also agreed that Yong’s status as a state exco will be determined after the police investigation.

“I have asked Perak DAP to oversee this matter and report to me. I have also discussed it with the Perak menteri besar.

“Whether at the party or state government level, we will wait for police to complete their investigation,” Lim told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Yong is the exco in charge of housing, local government, public transport, non-Islamic affairs and new villages.

He yesterday stepped forward to reveal his identity, and denied ever having raped or sexually assaulted his maid, who lodged a police report on Monday.

State police chief Razarudin Husain yesterday said Yong voluntarily went to police for questioning and cooperated with officers.

He said the maid, 23, is now at a safe location after undergoing a medical examination.

Police have interviewed Yong’s family at the house in Meru, Ipoh, where the alleged rape took place.

Perak excos’ swearing-in ceremony, originally scheduled for today, has been postponed indefinitely by the palace. – July 11, 2019.
