NAJIB Razak’s appointment to the chair of the Barisan Nasional advisory board does not appear to have gladdened the heart of Umno’s Khairy Jamaluddin.

“Suddenly, I’m not so happy where I am,” the Rembau MP said tersely to reporters before stalking off, at the Parliament lobby today.

He had been asked to comment on the events of last night, when the BN Supreme Council unanimously voted to name Najib chairman of the advisory council.

The appointment was announced by BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a statement.

The former prime minister is currently on trial for criminal breach of trust, money-laundering and power abuse in connection with SRC International, formerly a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

He also faces a stack of similar charges in connection with 1MDB and its dealings with Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC).

Khairy was among the first in Umno to call for Najib to step down as party president after BN lost the general election in May last year.

He had said that Umno must leave Najib behind in order to rise again to power.

BN secretary-general Mohd Nazri Aziz earlier today also expressed disapproval of Najib’s appointment, saying it would hamper Umno’s revival.

Nazri said BN was making a regressive move in appointing the man who had caused the coalition to lose the general election. – July 10, 2019.
