NAJIB Razak’s case with the parliamentary rights and privileges committee on the embargo violation of the Felda white paper is ongoing, said Liew Vui Keong.

The de facto law minister told The Malaysian Insight that the committee is still gathering evidence from witnesses.

Najib was referred to the committee for disciplinary action after violating the embargo in the last Dewan Rakyat sitting.

He allegedly posted excerpts of the white paper concerning Felda’s 37% stake purchase in Indonesia’s Eagle High Plantation on his Facebook on 5.39pm on April 9, although the embargo was in effect until 11.30am on April 10.

The motion to refer Najib to the committee was tabled by Liew on April 11.

It said Najib, who is Pekan MP, had infringed Clause 95A of the Standing Orders, which does not allow members to discuss matters embargoed by the house.

After an almost two-hour debate, the motion was approved with 86 votes while 33 voted against it. Najib was not present for voting.

The opposition had requested for division voting after losing the voice vote.

During the debate, the opposition had insisted that the report was uploaded on Parliament’s website a day earlier.

Opposition leader Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Najib could not have breached the embargo after Parliament had already uploaded the full report on its site. – July 6, 2019.
