FORMER defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein said investigations into land swaps and other cases is an opportunity for him to clear his name and set the record straight.
The Sembrong MP said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission probe is not only limited to the 16 land deals involving the defence ministry, but involved other cases, too.
“That is one of the issues…on the land swaps. There are many other issues they’re investigating.
“They’re digging up every single thing down there, which is good for me though.
“God willing, it clears me forever, I hope.”
Hishammuddin said he has cooperated with the anti-graft agency as he has nothing to hide.
“I’ve been very careful in my tenure (as minister). If there are any mistakes… I think they will do their job professionally. So I have nothing to hide. So I’m doing this without fear or favour,” he told reporters at Parliament lobby.
Hishammuddin was grilled for seven hours by MACC at its headquarters on June 23, on deals involving land that belonged to the defence ministry.
In February, the ministry revealed the government lost more than RM500 million in land swaps believed to have taken place since 1997. – July 1, 2019.
