FELDA chairman Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor has resigned because of health reasons, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“He is not well because of that, he asked to be let off,” the prime minister said at the sidelines of the 33rd Asia-Pacific round-table.
Megat was appointed to the post last July but will leave the embattled organisation on June 30. He succeeded Shahrir Samad, who resigned on May 14.
Media reports quoted Megat as saying in an internal memo to staff that the tabling of the white paper on April 10 was part of the journey and service, which has now come to an end.
He added that with transformation plan afoot, the agency will soon be restructured and succeed in its efforts to revamp into a new Felda.
An announcement on the new chairman for Felda is expected to be made by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the ministry in charge of the agency. – June 25, 2019.
