LET the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) do its job in investigating Umno’s purported links to funds misappropriated from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said.

“Let them (the MACC) do the needful,” Ahmad Zahid told reporters after a party division meeting at the Ideal Convention Centre in Selayang, Selangor, today.

The MACC has filed a civil forfeiture suit at Kuala Lumpur High Court to recover RM270 million linked to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal, naming 41 respondents including Umno.

The party was alleged to have been the recipient of the lion’s share of the money, to the tune of RM212 million.

Anti-graft agency chief Latheefa Koya said it was the largest such suit in Malaysian history, and that the money had originated from the bank account of former prime minister Najib Razak.

“The money we are going to recover was disbursed from an account at a local bank under Najib’s name, and it is 1MDB funds,” she told reporters at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.
