THE PKR disciplinary board has given Santubong Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz 14 days to explain his statements, which, according to board chairman Ahmad Kassim, has tarnished the party and its leadership’s image.
Ahmad said a show cause letter would be sent to Haziq, who has publicly stated that he was in a relationship with party deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Ahmad said he had informed the party’s political bureau meeting about the board’s planned action today.
“The show cause letter will be given to Haziq because he has tarnished the party’s image and made statements that have ruined the personal reputation of party leaders,” he said.
Ahmad said the show cause letter was among four measures decided by the PKR’s disciplinary committee at a meeting on Sunday, adding the board had taken note of Azmin’s denial about the allegation and would be looking for any explanation from him, if any.
“We are waiting for police – or any other authority – to complete their investigation.
“The disciplinary board warns members from making statements without basis or facts about the party and its leadership,” he said.
Azmin has repeatedly denied any involvement with Haziq, claiming the video clip was the work of PKR insiders.
Haziq last week said he was in a viral video showing him having sex with another man he claimed was Azmin Ali.
Haziq later lodged a police report to defend himself from accusations that he had a political agenda behind his confession.
The report lodged at Kelana Jaya police station last Thursday was confirmed by Selangor Criminal Investigations Department chief Fadzil Ahmat to The Malaysian Insight.
Haziq claims he has had multiple sexual encounters with Azmin over the past three years.
He has also asked the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate Azmin, whom he said was unfit to lead.
The PKR deputy president, when asked if he knew Haziq, had said he only knew the 27-year-old Sarawakian “from afar” and highlighted the latter’s past involvement with Barisan Nasional before joining PKR after Pakatan Harapan won the general election last year.
Azmin is also facing calls to take leave from official duties until police investigations into the sex clip are complete.
However, last Friday, party president Anwar Ibrahim said no action would be taken against Azmin or Haziq to avoid making the situation worse.
Haziq and Azmin have been questioned by police.
The authorities have formed a task force to investigate the case, while CID chief Huzir Mohamad has said Haziq is being investigated for sodomy and distribution of obscene material.
Huzir said that they are looking at four offences with regard to Hazqiq.
“He is being investigated for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature; and for the improper use of network facilities.
“He is also being investigated for the sale or otherwise of obscene material, and for the intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace,” the Bukit Aman CID chief was quoted as saying. – June 19, 2019.
