PUTRAJAYA is “lame” at protecting and speaking up for Muslims, said outgoing PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, continuing the party’s narrative that the government is anti-Islam.

He also slammed the Pakatan Harapan administration’s commitment to ratifying international human rights treaties, saying they are a threat to the country’s sovereignty.

These include the International Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Racial Discrimination and Rome Statute, which would make Malaysia a party to the International Criminal Court.

Khalil said the government’s Islamic affairs agencies paid more attention to the interests of non-Muslims than those of Muslims.

“The Foreign Ministry is very lame at speaking up for Muslims, but it is aggressive when it comes to ratifying international treaties that surreptitiously threaten national sovereignty,” he told the PAS Youth annual assembly in Kuantan today.

“And, those tasked with protecting Islam are more concerned about standing up for other faiths, and they keep quiet when PAS is insulted.”

He pointed to a recent incident, where a non-Muslim politician distributed zakat payments to Muslims, as the latest example of a “well-hatched plan to threaten the position of Islam in Malaysia”.

“During Ramadan, there were those who opposed Islam in Parliament but ‘invaded’ an Islamic institution to distribute zakat.”

Although Khalil did not mention any name, it is believed he was referring to a Penang PH politician, who has been panned for giving out zakat contributions in a mosque.

“After the 14th general election, not only was the (PH) manifesto not fulfilled, but even more disappointing is that there have been attempts to undermine the sanctity of Islam in this land.” – June 19, 2019.

  • Policies that are against humanity norms need protection to survive. History is full of examples of these types of policies implemented in some countries and how they failed miserably. Nazism and Apartheid are examples. I feel ashamed that I profess a religion that is colour blind to race and status and these are the things a Muslim party is asking protection for. We survived the British regime without these protections and many Muslims in other countries are also surviving honourably without these protections.
