DR Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she will remain as deputy prime minister until her husband, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, takes over from Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.

She dismissed a senior Selangor Bersatu leader’s call for Anwar to be given the post of deputy prime minister as part of the power transition.

The issue should not arise as the transition has been agreed upon by Pakatan Harapan, she said.

“I think we don’t need to bring this up. We have already pledged that the prime minister would be Dr Mahathir, and I would be the deputy prime minister.

“When the time came for Anwar to take over as PKR president, there was no problem. So, I will say that when Anwar becomes prime minister, I will step down. There’s no issue,” she told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Jeram assemblyman Mohd Shaid Rosli had said Anwar taking up the deputy prime minister’s post was a necessary step in the power transition. – June 18, 2019.
