PAS has upped the ante in its quest to take the Penang government to task over the recent floods in the state by lodging a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Its environmental committee chairman Saiful Lizan Mohd Yusof said they were lodging the report with the MACC’s Environmental Protection and Anti-Corruption Caucus.

“We are asking the caucus to probe the recent flash floods in Penang for any wrongdoing.

“We are giving the MACC reports of the floods, to show what it was like before and how it is now,” he told reporters outside the Penang MACC headquarters this morning before lodging the report.

Two days ago, his colleague Yacoob Omar, from Penang PAS’ land bureau, lodged a police report over the floods, urging the police to probe whether there was abuse of power in the state government’s approval of development projects.

Penang PAS alleges that the recent spate of floods in Penang was caused by developmental and environmental issues.

The state was hit by flash floods on September 15 and last week.

The state government said the September 15 floods were caused by extraordinary heavy rainfall, as high as 270mm, that was brought by Typhoon Doksuri.

The state government also denied allegations that it neglected flood mitigation, as it was spending RM405 million on such projects in the state. – September 25, 2017.
