CROWDS thronged Seri Perdana for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and ministers’ Hari Raya open house.

As of 11.30am, lines formed outside Seri Perdana, as people waited patiently to enter the grounds of the prime minister’s official residence.

The compound is expected to remain bustling for the better part of the morning and afternoon.

People from all walks of life continued to stream up the road leading to the official residence, both young and old.

However, this year’s open house seems less crowded than previous years.

“We heard about the event through the newspapers and were told to expect about 50,000 people visiting today,” said James Kong, one of the people waiting in line.

Kong, who works at a care home in SS2, Petaling Jaya, came here today with two students interning at the care home to “give them exposure”.

“This is our first time coming for an event like this,” he said.

Zolkharnain Abidin, 52, said he came to “show solidarity” with the Pakatan Harapan government.

Zolkarnain, who came with his family of five from Dengkil, Selangor, said he found out about the event through social media.

It is also his first Raya at Seri Perdana. – June 5, 2019.
