BATU Kawan lawmaker Kasthuri Patto has been called up by the police over her involvement in a forum held one year ago in Penang.

The DAP parliamentarian presented herself at the Jalan Patani police station to have her statement recorded.

Her counsel, R.S.N. Rayer, who accompanied her, told reporters that a police report was lodged on the “Deklarasi rakyat: Suara anak muda, selamatkan Malaysia” forum.

The forum was held at the Caring Society Complex on April 12 last year.

Kasthuri said she was one of the panellists but could not remember who organised it.

The police report, Rayer said, was not directed at Kasthuri, who was called to the station to “assist police investigation”.

“We don’t have any information. We are here because Kasthuri attended the forum and has been asked to assist investigations.

“We were only told the probe is under the Peaceful Assembly Act,’ he said, adding that Kasthuri was not the only MP from DAP called up by the police.

Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim has also been called up and is expected to have his statement recorded tomorrow over the same forum, he said.

“We were also told he has been called. He will be accompanied by lawyer and fellow MP Ramkarpal Singh,” Rayer said.

Sim, too, has no idea why he was being called to give his statement.

As the event was a year ago, he said he could hardly remember what was discussed at the forum.

“We are law-abiding citizens, so we just cooperate when they say they want to talk to us. We understand that the police are just following orders, but I think they have more critical cases to look into than talk to politicians.” – April 12, 2017.
