POLICE are reopening investigations into all 17 reports lodged against former telco CEO Jason Lo by his ex-wife since 2013, said Abdul Hamid Bador.
“We will investigate all 17 cases against the man, including several reports made alleging that he had outraged the modesty of his children,” the inspector-general of police told a press conference today.
He said for half of the reports lodged, the cases had been classified as “NFA”, or no further action required.
“The NFA decision was made for cases that didn’t have enough evidence and information.
“However, after relooking the cases and finding new evidence, the investigations will be resumed.”
He said the deputy public prosecutor decides a case as NFA if it lacks solid evidence and will not stand up in court.
However, if new evidence surfaces, the DPP may consider reopening the case in question, he said.
“There is no time limit to investigate. Even if it’s NFA, the case can be continued.”
Choo Lily, deputy director of Bukit Aman’s sexual crimes, women and children division, said Lo’s cases were temporarily closed due to a lack of clarity, meaning they could not be brought before a court.
On Saturday, English daily The Star ran a story claiming that Lo had molested his children, based on police reports lodged by his ex-wife.
In a Facebook post today, Lo denied the allegations against him, calling them “evil”, and slammed the newspaper for its “unethical” journalism.
He maintains that he has committed no crime, and accused The Star of running a one-sided report and failing to verify his ex-wife’s allegations. – May 28, 2019.
