TWO more suspects have been arrested over the robbery of a money changer last Thursday involving seven policemen and four civilians, Dang Wangi district police chief Mohd Fahmi Visunathan Abdullah said.
It is learnt that the two men, aged 29 and 32, were nabbed following an interrogation on a suspect detained earlier.
Fahmi told The Malaysian Insight that six of the officers detained have had their remand order extended for four more days until May 27.
The remaining five suspects, including another policeman, will end tomorrow.
“The remand for the two men arrested recently will end today but we are trying to get it extended.
“Both surrendered to the police after they were asked to,” Fahmi said.
The police chief added that action could only be taken against the police officers involved in the robbery after the probe was completed.
They are under investigation for robbery and impersonation.
“They have yet to be suspended as we have to wait until the probe is done,” he said.
Last Thursday, a group of police officers were detained at the Mutiara Damansara police station for allegedly attempting to extort RM204,000 from a Kuala Lumpur moneychanger.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim had said that the force was treating the case seriously, and vowed no compromise with the officers involved.
“Those found guilty will be punished according to the law.”
He earlier said that four civilians, including a Bank Negara staff member, had also been arrested on suspicion of abetting the cops in the case.
Of the two inspectors detained, one is from the police technical college in Muar, Johor, while the other is from the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters’ narcotics criminal investigation division.
Mazlan said the other officers are rank-and-file personnel, with three from the Sea Park police station, and one each from the Petaling Jaya station and city traffic station. – May 25, 2019.
