GRAFT-BUSTERS have seized 50 boxes of documents in their probe into a RM135 million bribery case involving a military procurement contract.

The Malaysian Insight was told that the first raid by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers took place on May 15 at Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd (Deftech), a subsidiary of DRB Hicom Bhd.

A source said an MACC team was dispatched to the company today, to seize the relevant documents.

“As of today, 50 boxes of documents have been taken away as part of the investigation into the case involving the purchase of armoured vehicles, namely Deftech AV8 Gempita worth RM7.5 billion and ACV-300 worth RM150 million.

“Among the documents are invoices, vendor lists, payment records and a letter of purchase.”

It is learnt that officers from DRB Hicom and Deftech cooperated during the raid.

Four people, including the CEO and chief financial officer of Deftech, have been remanded.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting or receiving gratification.

Recently, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said more witnesses will be hauled up in the probe.

“The case is still at the early stages (of investigation), and we are looking at calling more witnesses to assist us. How many, I’m not sure about that,” he said after launching a training programme for MACC personnel on Tuesday. – May 24, 2019.
