HOME Affairs Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has dismissed Bersatu supreme council member A. Kadir Jasin’s remark that non-performing ministers should voluntarily quit as a personal opinion.

Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, said he did not know who Kadir, also a veteran journalist, was referring to when he made the statement in a blog post.

“It’s okay, that is the opinion of a media practitioner,” Muhyiddin said after the Home Affairs Ministry’s iftar event tonight.

“I don’t know who he was referring to. If it is me, I would quit, but if it’s someone else, it is up to them. That is his personal opinion.”

Kadir, who is also media and communications adviser in the Prime Minister’s Office, had written in his blog on Tuesday that ministers, menteris besar, chief ministers and state executive councillors who could not deliver a year after Pakatan Harapan took federal power should step down from their positions voluntarily.

He said a year should have been enough for them to learn the ropes.

Kadir’s post comes as a few ministers come under fire for their handling of certain issues and public statements. Among them are Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik and Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad, although Kadir’s post did not mention any names.

Muhyiddin said in Bersatu, the party would leave it to individuals holding such posts to decide whether they were fit for the positions they held.

He said if a minister no longer felt that he or she was suitable for the job or had not performed up to mark, it should be up to them to decide their own future.

The Pagoh MP also said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad could act on the matter if he wanted to. – May 23, 2019.

  • They wont quit on their own. Where will they get a job that will pay them a minimum of RM15k a month and poor performance do not matter.
