FORMER prime minister Najib Razak will visit Penang this weekend for a nasi kandar fix and to meet some old friends.

He will arrive late on Saturday night, with his first stop being a popular nasi kandar stall in Butterworth.

Penang Umno liaison committee chairman Musa Sheikh Fadzir said this will be Najib’s first visit to Penang, a Pakatan Harapan stronghold, since the general election last year, when he visited Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor during the campaigning period.

“This is an unofficial visit. He has a programme in Perlis on Saturday and is spending the night in Penang before returning to Kuala Lumpur.

“He called yesterday and said he wanted to eat nasi kandar. So, we are going to take him to the Pokok Ketapang stall when he arrives around midnight,” Musa told The Malaysian Insight.

The nasi kandar stall in Kg Benggali, which opens at 11pm, is a popular late-night supper spot for locals. It is also known for its long queues.

Musa said Najib will also meet old party comrades from Penang Umno at The Light Hotel in Seberang Jaya on Sunday afternoon before visiting Bayan Baru on the island.

“He is free before his flight home, so we are arranging some programmes for him so he can meet old friends.

“We will also take him to the Ramadan bazaar at the Bayan Baru mosque after the Asar prayers.

“He will then break fast at Surau An Nur Hidayah in Sg Ara before catching his flight,” he said.

Najib led Umno and Barisan Nasional until their defeat in the general election last May.

He kept a low profile briefly before returning to action by writing on Facebook regularly to criticise the current PH administration.

These days, he goes by the moniker “Bossku”, made popular as he helped BN’s campaign in the Cameron Highlands by-election earlier this year. – May 23, 2019.
