THE main suspects accused of graft and abuse of power at the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) have been summoned for questioning as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission enters the final stage of its investigations.

Sources told The Malaysian Insight that charges could be filed as early as next month.

“We have recorded the statements of all witnesses. From now, we will question those suspected of corruption at the commission,” said a source.

Investigations so far have revealed elements of power abuse and graft involving projects worth billions of ringgit, the source said.

“The scandal does not only involve a RM500 million project but many more. There was also misappropriation of funds in a RM33 million IT software service project,” a source told The Malaysian Insight.

“There are other smaller projects involving millions of ringgit in bribes which were found from the ongoing investigations into CCM and companies linked to it.”

Five suspects, including two senior CCM officers, have been remanded to facilitate investigations. One of the two senior officials was from the top management of the agency.

MACC conducted a series of raids in the Klang Valley and other states, including Pahang and Sarawak, as part of its probe into the direct award of the RM500 million contract for the Business Reporting System of Malaysia to Formis Network Services Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of POS Malaysia Bhd.

An investigation was conducted in Sarawak specifically on the procurement and purchase of an RM30 million building in the state.

MACC raided more than 10 offices, warehouses, workshops and homes of individuals connected to the case.

In early January, a civil society group submitted a memorandum to MACC listing alleged wrongdoing, abuse of power and corruption in the government agency’s implementation of high-impact projects.

The memorandum alleged that same individuals and companies repeatedly secured contracts.

The allegations were also raised in Parliament by Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin last November. – May 22, 2019.
