A COMPANY owner has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly bribing an agency under the minister of defence in order to secure a military procurement contract.
The arrest comes a week after two senior officials of Defense Technology Sdn Bhd (Deftech) were arrested over the same case.
The suspect, who was placed on remand for four days until this Friday, was arrested last night at around 11pm when he showed up at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to have his statement recorded.
Prior to this, MACC arrested the two Deftech executives in connection with allegations of bribery from several companies for the contract to supply equipment to AV8 and Adnan armoured fighting vehicles (AFV) between 2014 and 2017. Deftech is a subsidiary of DRB Hicom.
Deftech’s CEO was released today on a bail of RM20,000 on one surety, after he was remanded on May 13. He was only remanded for four days until last Thursday, but the remand order was extended.
The other officer, Deftech’s chief financial officer, was released last Thursday with a bail of RM50,000 with one surety.
DRB Hicom in a statement previously had said that they will give their full support to the authorities in this case. – May 20, 2019.
