FORENSIC expert Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi today defended his view that fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was not pulled out of an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle by a mob during the riots at the Seafield temple last November.

The Kuala Lumpur Hospital pathologist said if that was the case, Adib would have protected himself from the attackers.

The proof of Adib protecting himself was not evident based on other testimonies and his postmortem report, he added.

He told the coroner’s court that it is “human instincts” for a person to react in defence when someone is about to get hurt.

“If someone had come towards Adib, he would have known about it and tried to protect himself.

“He would have even given the person a few punches,” said Dr Ahmad Hafizam at the Shah Alam High Court.

He was responding to Housing and Local Government Ministry lawyer Syazlin Mansor who had asked about the conclusion of his report where he had said Adib could have exited the vehicle or he might been pulled out.

Dr Ahmad Hafizam said witness testimonies and the experiments conducted have supported his view.

He added his initial conclusion was based on evidence that was provided to him at the time.

“None of the witnesses told the court they saw him being pulled out.

“There are no evidence or explanation to show that he was pulled out.

“The post mortem and experiments showed that he was not pulled out.”

Adib, who was Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue EMRS personnel, sustained injuries in a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya on November 27, 2018.

He died on December 17 at the National Heart Institute.

The inquest resumes later today. – May 16, 2019.
