MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun is initiating legal action against DAP state representative Yeo Bee Yin over “false allegations” on the purchase of land in Petaling Jaya.

Chew said she would take the Damansara Utama assemblyman to court for claiming Chew had been instrumental in helping Selangor MCA to buy a piece of land below market value in 2008.

“After consulting my lawyers I have decided to commence legal action against Yeo.

“I was neither on the district land committee nor a member of the state exco and did not partake in any decision to approve any application of any land under the jurisdiction of the Selangor government at the time,” she said in a statement.

Last week, Yeo and Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua called on Selangor MCA to come clean on the purchase of a one-acre plot of land in Kampung Cempaka, at a price allegedly well below market rates.

Pua said MCA had applied to the state government for the land in 2006  and was granted approval in 2007.

He said MCA then purchased the land for RM52,000 in 2008, at the rate of RM1psf when the land was at least RM400psf.

Chew has denied applying for the land, and asked that they check instead with the former state exco. She declined to say more.

Chew was Petaling Jaya Utara MP at the time the land was bought.

She said Yeo had also uttered slanderous statements in a video claiming she was unfit to hold office, unethical and untrustworthy.

“The said allegations are principally done in pursuit of cheap publicity, sensationalism and calculated to inflict political and personal damage.”

Chew said she had also instructed her lawyers to stop Pua from repeating the allegations against her.
“He does not understand the basic fact about state matters and the role of a MP. All land matters come under the jurisdiction and purview of the state and MPs are not part of the district land committee.” – September 19, 2017.
