PAKATAN Harapan will continue with its need based policies as envisaged in its manifesto to ensure no race is left behind, said Lim Guan Eng.
The DAP secretary-general said the party will continue to show its commitment to help the poorer sections of the community irrespective of race and religion.
“We need to give our commitment that if you are poor it doesn’t matter if you are Chinese, Malay, Indian or Kadazan.
“We don’t deny that majority of Malays need help. But, that doesn’t mean that there are no poor Indians and Chinese.
“We have to focus on what we talked about in the manifesto which is to provide need based policies,” he said after officiating the DAP National Conference 2019 in Shah Alam today.
Lim said the coalition needs to deliver more than just the basic promises of food, clothing and shelter to the people.
“They need opportunities in education, employment and business.
“We also need to equip them with the necessary skills to be able to compete internationally.”
Lim said Pakatan Harapan will have to perform better than the previous administration.
“Even though a big majority of the B40 group are Malays, there are also Indians and Chinese.
“Of course, the Malays will be helped but the opposition will not agree. They will say that poor non-Malays do not deserve help because of the colour of their skin. That where we differ (from their stance).
“We doing this based on facts and statistics, not based on sentiments played by the opposition.”
He said that there is no point if Pakatan Harapan is the government but unable to help the needy.
“No one should be left behind and it doesn’t matter what race they are. If they are poor, we help them.”
Lim also said the government wants the private sector to drive the economy and invest in the digital economy.
“These are the areas we need to invest to push Malaysia forward.” – May 5, 2019
