DIGITIAL technology such as the industrialised building system (IBS) can aid the government’s efforts to build one million affordable houses in the next 10 years, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The prime minister said IBS would also allow houses to be built quickly at lower cost.
IBS offers technology-intensive construction techniques, where components are manufactured in a controlled environment, either at site or off-site, and then placed and assembled into construction works.
“This technology can help the government achieve the target of building one million affordable houses in 10 years,” he said after launching developer Gamuda’s IBS factory in Banting today.
He said IBS technology would lessen the construction industry’s reliance on foreign workers.
Under the government’s affordable housing scheme, the target for this year is to complete 100,000 units at a price range of about RM300,000.
“This is in line with Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto to build one million affordable houses.
“Those in the B40 and M40 groups are the main focus of the government for the next five years,” he said. – May 2, 2019.
