THE Federal Territories Foundation (YWP) is ready to “open its books” to those who are sceptical about its function, said Khalid Samad.
The federal territories minister, who is chairs the foundation, has come under fire after questions were raised on the role of the body.
Khalid said YWP was prepared to disclose its accounts as it has nothing to hide.
“If people are unhappy and they want to see our accounts we are completely ready to show them.
“We are completely transparent and we can guarantee that we won’t do what the former administration allegedly did,” he said at City Hall headquarters today.
Khalid was commenting on residents who had questioned the foundation’s role in handling development in the city.
This includes the controversial proposed Taman Rimba Kiara housing project in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
Denying allegations of conflict of interest against him, Khalid said neither he nor the landowner, YWP, stands to gain from the revised project.
Khalid had said his ex-officio position as YWP chairman is as stipulated by the foundation’s constitution.
He said the main aim of the foundation is to generate revenue for welfare programmes.
“The foundation needs money to carry out programmes. That’s why City Hall has passed projects to the foundation to generate revenue to carry out welfare programmes.
“I don’t understand why these people are making noise. It’s not like I’m lining my pockets.
“Don’t shoot from the hip as though we are still in the opposition.
“Why are we being singled out as most states also have foundations that are dealing with land and chaired by their chief ministers.
“If there are issues the people can come and see us.” – April 30, 2019.
