BERSATU co-founder Anina Saadudin’s decision to leave the party was solely her own, said Muhiyiddin Yassin.

The party president said Anina had approached him a few months ago to inform him of her intention to leave.

“She told me that she had been facing problems, such as financial and work issues.

“She never said anything about my attitude or Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said after attending the royal commission of inquiry into Bank Negara Malaysia’s forex losses today.

Anina, who announced her resignation yesterday, claimed that Bersatu “no longer practised the principles of justice, transparency, and integrity” in its administration.

Muhiyiddin said even though she sat in the party’s supreme council, she did not attend meetings or programmes.

“She had personal problems.”

In December last year, Anina was stripped of her post as chief of the women’s wing.

She reportedly said the move followed allegations that she was involved in a “sexting scandal”, which she denies.

Anina was sacked from Umno in September 2015 following her scathing speech against party president Najib Razak at the Langkawi Umno meeting that year over the RM2.6 billion donation he reportedly received from Arab royalty. – September 18, 2017.
