Foreign investors attracted to weak ringgit, says analyst

A WEAK ringgit will be attractive to foreign investors, said forex market analyst Han Tan.

Tan, from international forex brokerage firm FXTM, said the weaker currency will provide attractive valuation for exports and foreign direct investments (FDI).

“If there is a weakness in ringgit, then Malaysia can be an attractive preposition for global investors in terms of valuation, be it FDI’s or exports,” he told reporters at the ringgit outlook roundtable in Kuala Lumpur today.

A weaker currency will be a positive for Malaysian exports, although the ringgit has been able to buck the trend of contraction in recent days, he said.

Additionally, a weak ringgit will also translate into a healthier investor appetite for the various asset classes.

The ringgit is trading at RM4.13 against the US dollar today. – April 24, 2019.
