Najib, Arul to be tried together over 1MDB audit report tampering

FORMER prime minister Najib Razak and former 1Malaysia Development Bhd chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy’s trial will take place from November 18 to 29 this year, and January 13 to 17, 2020. 

Both men are charged with tampering with an audit report on 1MDB before it was presented to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The duo appeared in front of Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan today.

Najib was represented by Muhammad Shafee Abdullah while Arul was represented by N. Sivanathan. 

The prosecution applied for both men to be tried together, to which the defence did not object. 

Zainal set case mention for August 29. 

The charge under Section 28(1)(c) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 carries a maximum 20 years’ jail and a fine of no less than five times the amount of gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted. – April 16, 2019.
