ROSMAH Mansor was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission this afternoon and is expected to face another charge in relation to the hybrid solar power project for Sarawak rural schools tomorrow.
MACC sources told The Malaysian Insight that the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak was arrested after she was summoned to the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Putrajaya this afternoon.
The latest charge was that she allegedly solicited and received a RM5 million bribe in relation to the hybrid solar power project.
“She will be released after her statement is taken,” a source told The Malaysian Insight.
Rosmah left the MACC headquarters hurriedly at 3.15pm in a black Proton Perdana.
The car beat a red traffic light as it dodged members of the media who were waiting for her.
MACC has already referred charges against Rosmah and her former aide, Rizal Mansor, for soliciting RM187.5 million and for receiving RM1.5 million in bribes related to the RM1.25 billion solar projects.
The charge sheet states that the RM 187.5 million is equivalent to 15% of the total project value, but prosecutors said that Rosmah only received a fraction of the sum solicited.
The project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak was awarded by the Education Ministry through direct negotiation.
The education minister at the time was Mahdzir Khalid.
MACC has already arrested three individuals, including a company director, to facilitate investigations.
Najib was also summoned to the MACC headquarters last year to give his statement for the probe, as was Mahdzir. – April 9, 2019
