THE government can deliver on its election pledge of creating one million jobs in five years, said Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.
“The target of one million jobs is not a problem,” he told the Dewan Rakyat during question time this morning.
Pakatan Harapan in its election manifesto had pledged to create one million quality jobs in five years.
Kulasegaran said there are 130,000 jobs available from June to December.
“In June, we had 14.8 million workers. In December, the number went up to 14.9 million.
“That is an increase of more than 100,000. This means that every month we have more people being employed.”
He said the ministry is also looking at creating 250,000 “green” jobs in five years that are opportunities for the youths.
“This is a new initiative by the government, which the people have more faith in, since the change in administration.”
Shahidan Kassim (Arau-BN), who had asked the minister on government efforts to reduce unemployment, also questioned Kulasegaran’s remark.
“Is it true there is more faith in the government?” asked the former Barisan Nasional minister.
“Of course, if you look at the numbers. There is no drop in job opportunities,” said Kulasegaran.
“The one million job target will be met. Just believe it.” – April 9, 2019
