THE consultant tasked with analysing the tolls imposed on expressways will present its findings to the cabinet in June, said Deputy Works Minister Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir.

The independent consultant, appointed on January 28, will look into the proposal of reducing toll rates in the near, medium and long term.

It was previously reported that the findings will be presented to the cabinet in May.

“A decision on the Gombak toll (at the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway) should be made after studying the findings,” he said in Parliament.

R.S.N. Rayer (Jelutong-PH) asked that the Works Ministry consider abolishing the toll for the Penang Bridge, since the crossing was built in the 1980s and the concession should have been paid off.

Anuar said the government will consider it, but it will also depend on whether the government could afford it. – March 28, 2019.
